Erebia pandrose (Borkhausen, 1788)
Range: Highly disjunct: the high mountains of C and S Europe, N Fennoscandia, N Ural and some mountains of S Siberia.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Rila, usually not below ca. 2200 m.
Habitat: Rocky grassy slopes, screes and ridge crests.
Bionomics: One generation from late June till August. Larval host-plants: grasses (Poaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: This species has a very restricted Bulgarian range and, despite not being directly threatened at present, must be considered vulnerable and of high conservation interest. IUCN category: Vulnerable. Its inclusion into the Red Data Book of Bulgaria is herewith recommended.
