Neptis sappho (Pallas, 1771)
Range: From SE Europe to Japan.
Distribution in Bulgaria: In the lowland and mountain regions of N, C and W Bulgaria, up to ca. 1000 m a.s.l.
Habitat: Sunny, damp semi-open places in wooded river valleys, forest roads and clearings.
Bionomics: Two generations from May till August. Larval host plants: Lathyrus è Robinia pseudoacacia (Fabaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: In Bulgaria this is a local and comparatively rare species at the southernmost limit of its European distribution. Needs further studies. IUCN category: Data Deficient, possibly Lower risk, near threatened.
