Plebeius escheri (Hübner, [1823])
Name in Tolman & Lewington (1997): Agrodiaetus escheri
Range: N Africa, Portugal, Spain, S France, S Switzerland, Italy (nominotypical escheri) and the Balkan Peninsula, where the well-differentiated subspecies dalmaticus (Speyer, 1882) occurs.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Very local: the karst regions of Pirin and W Rhodopi, single records from Rila and Slivenska Stara Planina. Between 500 and 1700 m a.s.l.
Habitat: Dry rocky grassy places in calcareous terrain.
Bionomics: One generation from mid-June to August. Larval host-plant: Astragalus (Fabaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: This interesting endemic taxon has a very restricted distribution in the country and can be regarded as vulnerable. IUCN category: Vulnerable.
